Research Assistant

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to recruit a talented Research Assistant to support the research of the Queen’s University Belfast and MBDA collaborative research team. The work will focus on an assessment of the procedural & methodological readiness of design functions for the process of certification by analysis. The processes and methods relate to the structural and functional performance of complex systems (e.g. unmanned air system – UAS).

About the person:

Successful applicants will have responsibilities in process review & documentation, independent research, collaborating with the QUB team and outreach. Direct collaboration with MBDA will be a key aspect of the role, including regular meetings with engineers from the company.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

• Have or about to obtain a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, or related science (expectation 2.1 or higher)
• Recent relevant experience to include:
  • Knowledge of using relevant techniques to carry out analyses, critical evaluations, and interpretations of data as relevant to the research project
  • Demonstrable experience in technical writing and the critical evaluation of modelling & simulation processes / documentation.
  • Design and operation of complex systems (E.g. UAS).

The successful candidate must be willing to undertake, and pass, security checks as required by the funding and be able to commence the role within 4 weeks of being notified of being successful at interview.

This post is available for 5.6 months. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
