About the Role
The Bodleian Libraries are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Security Team Member to join our in-house team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our people, buildings, and collections across the Old Bodleian Library, the Weston Library, and the Radcliffe Camera.
You will be part of a dedicated team providing the first point of contact for readers and visitors. You will monitor and patrol library spaces, check entry credentials, and respond to a range of operational and emergency situations. You will also support the smooth daily operation of our historic and modern sites, including unlocking and locking buildings, conducting bag and locker searches, and maintaining accurate security records.
This is a full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week mainly between 2pm and 9.15pm on a three-week rota, which includes working one weekend in every three.
Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to the safety-critical nature of responding to emergency situations.
About You
You will be an excellent team player with a professional, customer-oriented approach and the ability to interact courteously with people at all levels. You will be observant and able to maintain attention to detail, with the stamina to undertake repetitive tasks and spend long periods standing and walking. A good standard of spoken and written English is essential.
Ideally, you will also hold a recognised first aid or security qualification and have experience in a security or customer service environment.
Diversity
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at recruitment@glam.ox.ac.uk.
How to Apply
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting evidence form using the attached template as part of your online application. Your supporting evidence form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered.
We aim to provide a supportive working environment and are happy to discuss training and professional development opportunities. The Chair of this recruitment panel will be David Freeman, Security and Facilities Manager, who can be contacted with enquiries relating to the role (david.freeman@bodleian.ox.ac.uk). General queries about the recruitment and application process should be directed to the Recruitment team within our Human Resources department (recruitment@glam.ox.ac.uk).
Only applications received online before 12:00 midday (GMT) on Monday 10 November 2025 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 20 November 2025.
Please do let us know if you require any more information. Many thanks for your assistance in advance.
