The Role

UL is currently seeking applicants for the role of President. The President holds a central position internally and within the Irish higher education sector, working with senior level leadership across Government, Public Sector, major industry partners, while remaining deeply connected to the broader community.

As President, the successful appointee will be the University’s Chief Officer and accounting officer. Reporting to the Governing Authority, the successful appointee will be an exceptional, visionary leader, possessing excellent strategic, organisational, collaborative and communication skills. This role involves shaping and delivering institutional strategy, ensuring financial stability, and driving academic performance. The President will also build new and nurture already strong partnerships across academia, government, industry, and the community to enhance the University’s reputation and societal impact.

The Person

UL is seeking a senior academic leader of exceptional character, with a proven track record in strategic, visionary and trustworthy leadership within large, complex organisations.

They will have a deep understanding of the higher education sector, research and innovation funding, and global engagement. The next President of UL will be a distinguished academic with a proven track record and a leadership style defined by integrity, empathy, effectiveness, determination and enthusiasm to promote the success of UL.
