This is a job which although being appointed by Cardiff University, will involve working at/with Wellcome Connecting Science, based in Cambridge (specifically Wellcome Connecting Science, Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton CB10 1SA).
The ISO in a Box project is funded by Wellcome, and has been established to develop tools and training to simplify the process of ISO accreditation for genomics and bioinformatics in laboratories based in Low and Middle Income Countries.
This post will play a critical role in the delivery of the project – supporting the development and implementation of training programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities of genomic/bioinformatic researchers, bioinformaticians, public health and clinical staff.
These programs will focus on training to develop software which is ‘ready for ISO accreditation’ and training wet and dry laboratory staff to use and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enable ISO certification. Collectively, the work will ensure that clinical and public health laboratories are equipped to implement standardised genomics and bioinformatics workflows.
The Training Specialist/Developer/Coordinator will significantly contribute to the enhancement of laboratory capabilities in implementing standardised genomics and bioinformatics workflows. This role will ensure that clinical and public health laboratories are equipped with the necessary skills to develop accreditation processes, and capacity for effective use of standardised workflows for disease management and surveillance, ultimately leading to improved public health outcomes.
The work will involve international collaboration, with the ISO in a box project team, based in Cambridge, Cardiff and Cape Town, as well as partner organisations, particularly in Africa, but also in other parts of the world.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term until 31 July 2028, and available immediately.
Salary: £33,951 - £36,636 per annum (Grade 5). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
