About Us

The relaunched and expanded Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies is a King’s College London Department that includes the Foundation for Liver Research and King’s College Hospital. It consists of over 15 different PI groups and 100 FTE spanning discovery science to implementation science with over £30Million of active funding. It is linked to the Liver Service at King’s College Hospital which is one of the largest and most comprehensive clinical liver programmes in the world. There are 5 focus areas: Steatotic liver disease, Cirrhosis & gut-liver axis, Hepatobiliary neoplasia, Regeneration & Transplantation, and Paediatric & Rare diseases and a strong public and patient involvement and engagement programme.

About the role

The clinical research fellow will undertake research activities, focussed on either stromal cell therapy in liver disease or Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) under the supervision of Prof Philip Newsome within the newly revamped Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies at King’s College London. The 3-year post is suitable for Specialty Trainees in Hepatology. The ideal candidate would be looking for a career in academic liver disease.

This post is based at the Denmark Hill Campus and the Fellow will be expected to take part in research activities in line with the objectives and requirements of the department, sufficient to maintain and develop pre-existing skills. There is a clinical component including out-patient work at King’s College Hospital (two clinics per week) under the supervision of Prof Philip Newsome.

This is a full-time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract for 36 months.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • MBChB/ MBBS or equivalent
  • GMC Registration
  • Clinical experience in care of hepatology patients 
  • Evidence of interest/experience in hepatology research
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and good computing skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to work to clinical and scientific deadlines 

Desirable criteria

  • Intercalated BSc or similar experience
  • Proven experience in prior publications in hepatology
