The Royal College of Art is seeking an experienced and dynamic Pre-Sessional Coordinator to lead the operational and academic delivery of our innovative English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Pre-Sessional courses for postgraduate Art and Design students.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and creative professional with a passion for language education and an appreciation of the unique demands of art and design pedagogy. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in shaping and delivering high-quality, responsive, and student-centred Pre-Sessional provision, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and administration.

About the Role

Reporting to the Academic Skills Coordinator, the Pre-Sessional Coordinator will take ownership of the operationalisation of the Pre-Sessional courses, including course setup, team leadership, administration, and quality assurance. The postholder will recruit and manage a team of EAP tutors, coordinate course communications across departments, and ensure a consistently high standard of teaching and assessment.

You will contribute to curriculum development, CPD initiatives, and the continuous enhancement of our Pre-Sessional provision, drawing on your knowledge of EAP best practice and your interest in postgraduate Art and Design education. The role also involves limited in-sessional support to strengthen alignment with the wider academic skills provision across the College.

The successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with colleagues in Academic Skills, Registry, and College departments to deliver a seamless student experience.

About You

You will hold a postgraduate degree in EAP, linguistics, or a related field, alongside a postgraduate teaching qualification, and have extensive experience in UK higher education, ideally within a course coordination or leadership capacity. You will have a proven track record in managing teaching teams, overseeing complex administrative processes, and delivering effective EAP and academic literacies teaching both online and in person.

Strong organisational skills, an innovative mindset, and the ability to lead with initiative and collaboration are essential. You will bring enthusiasm for developing both staff and students, as well as an understanding of the creative and interdisciplinary nature of postgraduate art and design education.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in EAP/Academic Skills course leadership and coordination
  • Excellent administrative, communication, and time management skills
  • Strong understanding of EAP best practice and academic literacies
  • Experience managing hybrid course delivery and digital learning platforms
  • Collaborative leadership style and commitment to CPD and innovation

Working Pattern

This is a 0.8 FTE permanent role. The Pre-Sessional courses run from November to September, requiring flexibility, hybrid working, and availability from 8.30am during teaching periods.

Join us to help shape the future of EAP in one of the world’s leading Art and Design institutions.
