Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier. 

Join our Harassment and Violence Support Service as a Sexual Harassment and Violence Adviser. You will provide vital support to students across the collegiate University who have experienced sexual harassment, sexual violence or domestic abuse. 

This is an integral role in a specialist team which involves delivering non-judgemental and impartial emotional and practical support and guidance in a trauma-informed manner, alongside providing policy guidance and explaining reporting options to students. 

You will play an essential role in supporting staff through training, workshops, and consultations, and working with colleagues across the University, Colleges, external agencies, to ensure students feel safe, supported and empowered. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma-informed emotional and practical support to students through one-to-one casework.
  • Guide students through reporting processes and help them understand their options around wellbeing, academic progress and personal safety, whilst identifying and managing emerging risks and safeguarding concerns.
  • Collaborate with teams across the University, including the Counselling Service and Mental Health Advice Service, to enhance the support framework for students.
  • Work closely with external agencies to ensure holistic and comprehensive support.
  • Deliver training and workshops to staff and offer expert consultation on issues surrounding sexual violence and domestic abuse.
  • Act as a liaison for key College staff, providing specialist guidance and advice.  

About You: 

We are looking for an empathetic, experienced professional with a strong understanding of the complexities surrounding sexual violence and domestic abuse.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have significant experience in providing one-on-one support to adults who have experienced sexual violence or domestic abuse. 
  • Have an understanding of risk, safeguarding, safety planning and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Be strongly committed to supporting survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse. 
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the impact and dynamics of sexual violence and domestic abuse. 
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, enabling trust-building and credibility with students and staff.
  • Show emotional resilience and an ability to maintain clear boundaries whilst working effectively under pressure.
  • Have a strong interest in working with students in Higher Education. 

We are currently looking for a working pattern of 3 days on site and 2 days at home (based on a full-time pattern of working). Please feel free to discuss flexibility prior to applying or at interview if your application is successful.
