About The Role
We are looking for a Research Assistant with outstanding organisational and communication skills who is also passionate about making a difference to the planet. You will play a pivotal role as Research Assistant within a multi-partner and multi-disciplinary project, ‘Retrofitting for the Future – Nature-Based Solutions to Climate Adaptation’, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
The project explores the cultural, social, and ecological dimensions of biophilic retrofitting (i.e. integrating ‘nature’ into buildings) through the lens of the Biophilic Living Building in Swansea (“Biome”) – a comprehensive, nature-based retrofit of an old Woolworth’s store, with social housing over a ground floor for sustainable social enterprises and other activities.
The project explores how retrofitting Green Infrastructure – nature-based solutions such as green roofs and walls, rain gardens and so on –helps cities adapt to climate change. The project will identify regulatory and human-centred challenges that hinder widespread adoption of biophilic design and deliver evidence-based, replicable pathways to retrofitting nature-based solutions for urban climate adaptation.
The Research Assistant will work within the multi-disciplinary team of academics (including specialists in architecture, ecology, law, literature and anthropology) and societal partners (including professionals and innovators in construction, social housing, green infrastructure, and nature based solutions).
The project’s Team convening principles are set out https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/researcher/what-is-thrive/ which will be adopted and adapted by our co-leaders and collaborators.
The Research Assistant will have excellent interpersonal skills, be adaptable and a great problem solver. They will be able to work collaboratively to specific timelines with academic and industry colleagues on research deliverables, including mapping and database development, interview and workshop analysis, producing work for publication and so on (see JD for more detail).
