The University of Exeter Law School is embarking on a programme of significant expansion, including investment in posts and our facilities, as well as new programmes and growth in student numbers. The School delivers research-led teaching in a supportive and inclusive environment, deploying a range of innovative teaching and assessment methods. The School is particularly successful in supporting students towards excellent employment outcomes, and is committed to ‘Success for All’, meaning we support all of our students, from a range of backgrounds, towards positive academic and career outcomes. We have a successful and award-winning Community Law Clinic, giving students opportunities to be client-facing, whilst meeting local needs for high quality legal support and advice.

The role

You will be to support the delivery of undergraduate programmes and modules. You will contribute to teaching, learning design, dissertation supervision, student support, and education leadership/administration commensurate with the grade. We are particularly interested in hearing from those who can offer teaching in one or more of the following subject areas: Land Law, Mediation, and/or Employment Law. You will be supported to develop their scholarly interests, their pedagogical expertise, and their external engagement. But this post does not require REF-facing research activity, since it is a teaching-focused role.

About you

You will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by either a PhD in a law-related field, or its equivalent in an area of professional legal practice
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this

Please read the Job Description for full details of this role.

What we can offer you:

  • Freedom (and the support) to pursue your intellectual interests and to work creatively across disciplines
  • Support teams that understand the University wide teaching goals and partner with our academics accordingly
  • An Innovation, Impact and Business directorate that works closely with our academics providing specialist support for external engagement and development
  • Our Exeter Academic initiative supports high performing academics to achieve their potential and develop their career
  • A multitude of staff benefits including sector leading maternity, adoption and shared parental leave

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commitment

We are committed to ensuring reasonable adjustments are available for interviews and workplaces.

Whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently underrepresented within our working community.

With over 30,000 students and 7,000 staff from 150 different countries we offer a diverse and engaging environment where our diversity is celebrated and valued as a major strength. We are committed to creating an inclusive culture where all members of our community are supported to thrive; where diverse voices are heard through our engagement with evidence-based charter frameworks for gender (Athena SWAN and Project Juno for Physics), race equality (Race Equality Charter Mark), LGBTQ+ inclusion (Stonewall Diversity Champion) and as a Disability Confident employer.
