The department UCL Arts and Sciences (UASc) is the home for the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc), which is the UK's leading interdisciplinary degree, covering arts, social sciences and sciences degree. BASc combines the breadth of interdisciplinary study across the arts and sciences with the opportunity to specialise in one or two key subject areas.

We are seeking a fixed-term Lecturer (Teaching) in Quantitative Social Sciences and Technologies, who will contribute to our module portfolio at all levels, with a specific focus on interdisciplinarity including:

  • AI and LLM with interdisciplinary applications (including network analysis, quantitative economics, behavioural and social design)
  • Quantitative research methods in a (social) sciences context (including economics, sociology, econophysics)
  • Technology and Digital Cultures
  • Interdisciplinary education and rigorous methodology.

Please note we are not looking for an applicant with a background in computer science.

This role will contribute to the UASc Department in all facets and will have a focus on teaching on the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc), with particular attention to the Societies and Sciences and Engineering pathways, including acting as a Personal Academic Tutor for c.30 students.

The postholder will contribute to modules on the BASc and MASc in Creative Health, such as BASC0001 Approaches to Knowledge: Introduction to Interdisciplinarity a compulsory module for first year BASc students and BASC0052 Research Methods in Arts and Sciences, a core module taught on MASc, as well as other modules, based on the expertise of the postholder. The postholder will also contribute to BASC0024 Final Year Dissertation, or may develop further specialist teaching, depending on availability and departmental requirements.

The post is based at the Bloomsbury campus, but travel to the UCL East campus will be required for teaching and other departmental activities.

This fixed-term post is available from 2 February 2026 until 31 July 2029.

The full-time role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

The postholder will be hold a PhD degree in any interdisciplinary area relevant to quantitative social sciences and technologies, but note that we are not looking for a computer scientist. Experience of teaching, curriculum development and research in quantitative social science and technologies is essential, along with the ability to mentor students.

Previous experience of working with academic departments across sciences, humanities and social sciences is desirable.
