Security Officer – Evenings

Contract Type: Part time, Fixed term contract till 31/12/2027 

Working pattern: 17:00 to 22:00, Monday to Friday, Overtime may be available

Location: Vernon Square, with occasional travel to Somerset House. 

The Courtauld Institute of Art is seeking a committed security officer to join our Estates and Facilities team at Reception.

The Courtauld Institute of Art is the UK’s leading institution for teaching and research in the History of Art and the conservation of paintings and is also home to one of the finest small art galleries in the world. The Courtauld is transitioning through a major capital transformation project and will be continuing over the next five-year period to transform its estate that will make The Courtauld’s world-class artworks, research and teaching accessible to more people – in the UK and internationally.

We would like an evening Security Officer to join our Estates and Facilities team to work collaboratively with our premises staff at our Vernon Square premises (near Kings Cross). You will provide a welcoming and professional front of house reception service to our staff, students, and visitors, as well as carrying out a range of security duties.

Key responsibilities:

• Greet and responding to staff, students, and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.
• Carrying out internal and external patrols of the site and premises.
• Closing and securing the premises each evening.
• Monitoring security systems, issuing passes and keys.
• Responding to incidents and completing incident and patrol reports.
• Reporting maintenance issues to the CAFM Helpdesk.

About you:

• Good standard of spoken and written English.
• SIA Licence ideally Door Supervisor (and CCTV desirable).
• Previous experience in a similar role in the higher education, hospitality, or cultural sector.
• A friendly and approachable demeanour and ability to portray a customer-oriented attitude.
• Able to remain calm and respond to medical emergencies including co-ordinating the safe evacuation of the premises, in the event of Fire Alarm
• Able to use Microsoft Office and other specialist software following training.
• Awareness of Health and Safety issues
