We are looking for a part-time Research Laboratory Technician to join the group of Professor Allan Herbison at the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience. The Herbison group uses molecular, cellular, and systems levels approaches to understand the neural networks that control puberty and fertility in male and female mice. 

The successful applicant will primarily be involved in managing the laboratory and assisting scientists with their research projects. Specific duties will include: 

  • Maintenance of the laboratory including the preparation of solutions, ordering and compliance
  • Undertaking PCR genotyping and assisting with animal management
  • Assisting research staff with research projects involving mice 

You should be educated to A' level, NVQ level 3, or an equivalent level of practical experience in biomedical or biological sciences along with experience of working in a multidisciplinary laboratory. Experience working with mice is highly desirable as is holding a current Home Office personal licence (PIL category A,B,C). Applicants should also be able to demonstrate familiarity of health and safety issues of a laboratory, accurate record keeping, good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads. Some flexibility in schedule may be required for the different research projects. 

We are seeking a candidate who is proactive, with good communication skills, and able to work within a team environment.

This post is offered on a part time basis, 18.25 hours per week (50% of full time). 

Fixed-term: The funding for this post is available for 12 months in the first instance.
