Assistant Lecturer in Law

The Role

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as an Assistant Lecturer in Law, on a specified purpose contract, for maternity leave cover, to support the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate Law programmes.

Candidates should have an excellent broad knowledge of law. The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the School, to undertake teaching duties on the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and to supervise students’ research projects.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile that supports the University’s research strategy, including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate, and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance, and generate publications of international standard.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential 

• A master’s degree in law or a cognate discipline to at least a 2.1 standard (fully completed at the time of application).
• A broad knowledge of law and a capacity and willingness to teach/tutor across a range of core modules in law (‘core modules’ being, for this purpose, the modules undertaken in preparation for the Law Society of Ireland FE1s (final examination - first part)).
• A strong record of experience of and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• A record of scholarly work and publications of international quality, demonstrating potential to become a significant contributor in their field.
• Good administrative, organisational, teamwork, communication and IT skills.

Desirable 

• A PhD in Law or a cognate discipline.

Salary Scale: Assistant Lecturer (2025) €42,099 - €71,998 p.a. (14 points) Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
