Main Responsibilities:

  1. Teach academic English courses to undergraduate students in a prescriptive curriculum according to university dictates, covering academic writing, presentation skills, critical thinking, and discipline-specific language development.
  2. Participate in the interdisciplinary collaborative design and re-design of teaching materials including syllabi, teaching materials, and assessments that support English Medium Instruction (EMI) under the direction of the Center Director.
  3. Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance English teaching within STEM and other research-driven fields.
  4. Foster an international campus culture by collaborating to organize workshops, language immersion activities, and academic skills seminars offered through the English Center.
  5. Advise and mentor students in academic English proficiency, including one-on-one consultations on writing and presentations.
  6. Undertake any other reasonable duties relevant to the post.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Native or near-native English proficiency.
  2. A master’s degree (MA/MSc) or higher in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English Language Teaching, or a related field.
  3. A recognized teaching qualification (if not part of the degree), such as TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, DELTA, or equivalent certification.
  4. Ideally, at least two years of experience in teaching academic English preferably at the adult or at the university level, with an understanding of students at the high intermediate academic listening and speaking skills levels.
  5. Experience and/or interest in integrating technology into language teaching, such as learning management systems (LMS), AI-assisted tools, or blended learning techniques.
  6. Strong intercultural communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse, international academic environment.
  7. Passion for teaching and student engagement, with demonstrated experience in classroom student teaching, volunteer teaching, and/or paid instructional positions, academic support, writing centers, and/or language enhancement programs.
  8. Physically fit to work in China and committed to adjusting to and adhering to Chinese laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
