University Information Services (UIS) provides the digital infrastructure, business information and computing services at the heart of one of the world's top universities. The role

The Granta Backbone Network (GBN) is the University's privately owned fibre optic network which is used to distribute IT services across the collegiate university campuses. The successful candidate will lead a small team to manage all aspects of the network to meet the University's IT needs and aspirations. You'll be managing and implementing changes and expansion to the network, as well as responsibility for all other aspect, such as procurement, contractor engagement and finance.

What you will do

As the GBN manager/lead you will:

  • Have responsibility for design, setting standards and ensuring quality control
  • Deliver complex projects, adhering to strict deadlines and budget
  • Manage and lead members of staff
  • Ensure good working relationships between the GBN, other UIS teams and other institutions, both internal and external to the University

This position is a permanent, full-time role, usually based on the University's West Cambridge Site.

What you will need

  • Line management or supervisory experience
  • Experience of successful project delivery
  • Proven ability to build relationships
  • Proven experience of leading and implementing innovation
  • Experience of civil engineering and cabling method
  • Experience contributing to the development and delivery of strategic technical plans or organisational change initiatives
