The School
The School of Human and Social Sciences is a multidisciplinary school that empowers and equips students to shape a sustainable, just and healthy society. The school has recently expanded its disciplinary coverage and now delivers a portfolio of education, research and enterprise activity across psychology, criminology, education and early years, forensic science, nutritional therapy, sociology, politics and international relations, and our new development of Sport & Exercise Science. The University is committed to the continued growth of the School of Human and Social Sciences with recent investments in portfolio developments, new equipment and staff.
The Role
To support our exciting development & growth aspirations for the forensic science and criminology disciplines at UWL, we are looking to strengthen our academic staffing body through the appointment of candidates with suitable qualifications and experience to two academic positions in forensic science. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to contribute to student support and course and curriculum development & delivery, as well as research, enterprise and external engagement. We welcome applications from individuals with expertise across the full range of the forensic science and investigation disciplines; however, we are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in crime scene investigation & management, forensic analysis, forensic anthropology and/or crime scene photography. Successful candidates at all grades will be expected to lead and deliver taught modules across our taught portfolio in forensic science, supervise student research dissertations & potentially PGR theses, as well as strengthen our research, knowledge exchange and enterprise profile through securing funding for and delivering projects, and disseminating findings through presentations and publications. For appointment at a higher grade there will be evidence of significant experience in curriculum design, development &accreditation, research leadership including publication and attracting research / enterprise funding, and experience of supervising PGR students. The precise mix of duties and objectives will be determined upon appointment.
The Person
This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who hold (or are within six-months of completing) a PhD in Forensic Science or Forensic Investigation, or a related discipline such as Policing or Criminology, or who hold equivalent professional experience in the field. Candidates should have experience of teaching delivery and supervision of projects or dissertations at undergraduate study level (plus at postgraduate level for appointment at higher grades). Candidates should be able to evidence a developing portfolio of research and / or knowledge exchange activity in line with their current career stage and should have evidence of or be willing to develop external funding applications and opportunities. They are expected to be able to work flexibly and as part of a team and to be prepared to support students in reaching their full potential.
