The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the vibrant and highly respected Department of 3D Design, a creative home to BA Interior Design, BA Product and Furniture Design, BA 3D Design Innovation, MA Sustainable Design, MA Product and Furniture Design and MA Interior Design, and a thriving postgraduate research community. You'll be part of a dynamic and ambitious team of students and staff, contributing to a culture of learning, teaching, and critical making at the forefront of the discipline.
We are looking for a Senior Lecturer (part-time, 0.6 FTE) to teach students on our nationally recognised undergraduate Interior Design programme, focusing on, but not limited to, first-year (level 4) students to build fundamental design skills while developing spatial understanding and conceptual thinking. The successful candidate will be highly organised and proactive, with excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively both within a team environment and with external stakeholders. They will deliver engaging teaching through workshops, tutorials, study tours, reviews and assessments.
We seek candidates with a passion for design education and knowledge sharing, who can positively inspire and motivate students as they begin their creative journey. This role requires someone with an all-rounded skillset encompassing both traditional analogue techniques such as hand drawing and physical model making, through to competency with contemporary digital tools including digital 3D modelling and visualisation technologies. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in delivering active learning methodologies that encourage student participation, collaboration and hands-on experimentation.
The successful candidate will also take on pastoral responsibilities, supporting students from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds as they transition into higher education. A commitment to equitable, student-centred learning and an enthusiasm for curriculum development are essential. You will play an active role in shaping how students develop their initial understanding and approach to interior design, ensuring they evolve capabilities in both creative confidence and technical competency.
The Person
We're looking for an innovative and enthusiastic individual with a passion for interior design and a commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. You will hold an undergraduate degree in Interior Design or a related subject; a Higher Degree or Research Degree is desirable.
You will bring expertise in fundamental design skills, spatial understanding and conceptual thinking, including proficiency across hand-drawing, model-making, visualisation and presentation techniques. An enthusiastic, forward-thinking approach to creative practice and student engagement is essential.
We are seeking someone keen to establish or further their profile in research, knowledge exchange, or higher education pedagogy. You should have experience in delivering high-quality teaching, assessment, feedback, and academic support to a diverse student body in higher education.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, along with the ability to contribute meaningfully to interdisciplinary teams and a wider academic community.
