Business Development Officer (Two roles)

Birmingham City University – Partnerships and STEAM

Birmingham City University is a large, diverse, and vibrant institution located in the heart of the city. We are excited to offer two opportunities for Business Development Officers to join our Engagement Team, a small but dedicated group within the Research, Enterprise, Engagement & STEAM Directorate.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and evolving service. We’re looking for individuals with strong financial and administrative skills, who can multitask confidently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

You will bring proven experience in employer engagement, business development, or a related field, along with the skills needed to deliver high-quality business development and engagement activities, with a strong focus on employability.

In this role, you will secure student placements, connect employers with the university’s curriculum, and help create graduate-level employment opportunities. Working closely with academic schools and professional services, you will build and sustain employer relationships that enhance student outcomes and support the university’s strategic objectives.

A key part of the role is identifying, developing, and maintaining employer partnerships to secure placements, internships, and graduate opportunities. You will strengthen connections between the University and industry by promoting our curriculum and student talent, and by working with academic colleagues to embed employer input into teaching across activities such as guest lectures, live briefs, and industry projects. You will also support a range of employer engagement activities, including careers fairs, events, and networking opportunities.

Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our Business Development Team to align employability initiatives with wider University priorities. The role involves maintaining accurate records of employer interactions, tracking student outcomes, and contributing to the creation of engaging promotional content. You will ensure all activities adhere to university policies and best practice standards.

For any queries or for an informal discussion about the role please contact Charmaine.stint@bcu.ac.uk.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.

Birmingham City University is deeply committed to equality, diversity, and inclusivity at all levels in the organisation, and to addressing underrepresentation in our workforce to ensure we are truly representative of the community we serve. We welcome applications from applicants from all backgrounds and communities for this role, and particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic applicants.
