Research and Knowledge Exchange Manager

Health Sciences University

Bournemouth Campus (with hybrid working and occasional travel to London)

Health Sciences University (HSU) is a specialist health sciences institution dedicated to excellent education, clinical care and applied research. Following the recent approval of our new university title HSU in July 2024 and the merger of the University College of Osteopathy into the HSU family from 1st August 2024, the institution is in a phase of growth and transformation across our campuses in Bournemouth and central London.

We are highly values-driven, inspired by our mission to ‘create a healthier society through education, research and clinical care,’ with dedicated staff and students working together within a caring and inclusive community. HSU delivers a diverse and growing portfolio of pre- and post- registration academic provision and research in allied health and related disciplines, and substantial CQC-registered clinical and imaging services delivering high quality care for our staff, students, and local communities. Our facilities create a unique offering in higher education, supporting local and regional NHS partners and providing a data-rich research environment.

Partnership working sits at the heart of what we do as an agile and collaborative higher education and clinical provider, responding to workforce, educational and clinical needs of our external stakeholders, and supporting our communities as established anchor institutions.

About the role

Health Sciences University (HSU) is expanding its research and knowledge exchange (RKE) activities and aiming to position itself as a first-choice partner within the health sciences community. We are seeking a Research & Knowledge Exchange Manager to join our growing Research Team and play a central role in supporting and enhancing our research and innovation portfolio.

In this role, you will provide operational leadership for the Research Team, supporting academic and clinical staff to deliver high-quality research outputs, increase external funding income, and strengthen collaborative RKE partnerships. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of University policy and strategy, support preparations for REF and other research assessment exercises, and coordinate reporting, including the annual HE-BCI survey.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, adaptable, and analytical professional to make a real impact at a small, agile university where your expertise will directly support our growth,

innovation, and reputation within the health sciences. The post reports to the Director of Research and works closely with the Head of Engagement and Partnerships.

About the person

We are looking for a proactive, adaptable, and analytical professional with strong leadership and people management skills. You will have extensive knowledge of research and knowledge exchange processes and procedures, and proven experience of supporting research assessment exercises such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF), Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF), and Higher Education – Business and Community Interaction survey (HE-BCI).

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, able to engage confidently with both specialist and non-specialist audiences, and skilled in influencing, negotiating, and building collaborative relationships across the University. You will be well organised, able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, and capable of developing and implementing policies and procedures to support RKE activity.

You will work across all areas of RKE, including pre- and post-award support, research assessment exercises, impact and ethics processes, and act as the University’s lead for funding development, supporting academic staff in identifying and securing external research income.

We are seeking someone who thrives in a small, agile environment, is flexible in responding to changing priorities, and can contribute to innovation and continuous improvement within the Research Team and across the University. Experience of supporting research and knowledge exchange in the health sciences or clinical environment would be highly desirable but is not essential.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum & Nationality Act 2006.
