About the role:

The post holder will provide efficient Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) support for the IoPPN Distance Learning Team. The post holder will be the initial point of contact for both, academic and student-support staff, enquiries and will liaise regularly with colleagues in central departments to enhance the virtual experience of our students. The post holder will work within established processes and procedures with minimum day to day supervision. The post holder is expected to deal with less routine queries; but refer more complex issues on to their line manager, using their initiative when necessary and managing their workload and priorities.

  • To provide full VLE support for the IoPPN Distance Learning (DL) Team, both for academic and student-support staff, ensuring that correct processes and procedures are followed and that deadlines are met.
  • To be the first point of contact for academic and student- support staff, communicating information clearly and precisely and assessing what needs to be passed onto others.
  • To ensure that the Distance Learning course and module pages on the e-learning platform KEATS are kept up to date, liaising with the IoPPN Distance Learning Team for information on modules to be prepared, addressing any issues that arise, as well as offering advice and opinions to more senior colleagues to assist them with programme decisions.
  • To ensure that procedure and programme documentation is kept up to date and stored appropriately.
  • To support educational activity including ensuring that assessments and reassessments on KEATS are set up and function correctly and are maintained to a high standard.
  • Working with the rest of the IoPPN Curriculum & Digital Innovation (CDI) team, the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning (CTEL) and IT to improve the delivery of DL programmes.
  • Assist with audio and video recording and editing in the filming studio or on location.
  • Provide support for photography and photo editing in the studio or on location.
  • Help manage bookings for the self-recording and podcasting studios.
  • Support training sessions for self-recording and podcasting.
  • Maintain and update AV equipment for the self-recording and podcasting studios.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you:

Essential criteria

  1. Excellent IT skills, including demonstrated experience with VLE systems (preferably Moodle) and associated tools (preferably Turnitin, and Kaltura), ideally in HE
  2. Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  3. Ability to maintain and develop e-learning content
  4. Experience of working in educational settings
  5. Understanding the importance of, and processes for, Quality Assurance, Accessibility and Inclusivity
  6. Experience of supporting blended or online programmes
  7. Ability to work efficiently under pressure, managing own workload with little supervision.

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience of managing projects
  2. Experience of using the student records system SITS 
  3. Experience of using virtual learning environments
  4. Experience in audio/video recordings in both studio and online environments
