About the role
We are looking for an experience researcher with experience of cell biology/neuroscience to join the Developmental Biology and Cancer Research and Teaching Department (Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine Section) at UCL GOS ICH. The post holder (Research Assistant) will join a world renowned, multi-disciplinary department within Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine with the ability to gain experience in multiple research areas. The primary role of the post holder will be to support existing research within the Gut Development and Repair Group (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/population-health-sciences/child-health/research/developmental-biology-and-cancer/stem-cells-regenerative-medicine-stem-cells-and-regenerative-medicine-scrm-section-aims-p/gut-development-and-repair-group). The postholder will work under Dr Conor McCann’s supervision. The main duties are as follows: • To manage the murine stocks used in the lab. • To perform histological processing and sectioning o f specimens including mouse and human gut tissue. • To carry out immunostaining on tissues and cells. • To record, analyse and write up the results of the above experiments in a timely fashion. • To prepare and present findings to other members of the lab for review purposes. • To contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required. • To assist with general lab tasks, such as preparing buffers, ordering consumables and stock inventory This post is funded until 29th March 2027 in the first instance.
About you
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate University degree (MSc/MRes) in a relevant area (e.g., Biosciences/Molecular Biology). They will also have a proven track record in having worked in a supportive role in a research laboratory. They will also be a holder of a Personal Licence (PIL), which is issued by the Home Office according to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. Ideally, the successful candidate will also bring practical experience in cell culture, tissue physiology, or related laboratory techniques, and will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative research team to ensure smooth running of the laboratory.
