About the Project
The Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMMIC) brings together world leading research facilities and expertise to stimulate new investment in research and development (R&D) to address regional and national materials and manufacturing challenges.

The AMMIC project is funded through the UK Government's Investment Zone programme. It is a £5M project that is focused on supporting industry with research and innovation activities. The AMMIC Investment Zone programme is positioned to develop business-university innovation focused on advanced manufacturing and sustainable materials development. This includes additive manufacturing, surface engineering, metamaterials, and materials for ‘green' energy.

AMMIC will provide a one port of call for innovation-ready businesses to access technological expertise and capacity building to embed and exploit the technologies for long-term growth. AMMIC will build expertise and capability that will deliver benefit to the Greater Manchester region. Prof Peter Kelly, Prof Carl Diver and Prof Jennie Shorley are leading this project.

About the Role & Team
In this specific role you will work in the PrintCity team at Manchester Metropolitan University. The award winning PrintCity is one of the UK's leading digital manufacturing facilities and you will get to work with some cutting-edge technology alongside some wonderful colleagues. Your job title will be Product Development Specialist - Additive Manufacturing. This is a wonderful position for a candidate with ambition, drive, a passion for technology and who is highly self-motivated.

Key Responsibilities
As a Product Development Specialist, you will:

  • Undertake research in Additive Manufacturing and digital technologies.
  • Engage with companies to develop a project scope and brief, and collaborate to deliver on the research and innovation projects.
  • Report project outcomes to AMMIC stakeholders.
  • Lead activities and guide the team on running the industrial Additive Manufacturing equipment as well as ensuring the space and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
  • Work with the University procurement team on purchasing equipment.
  • Project budget management.
  • Promote the activity of the project at external events, through presentations or running workshops.

Key Skills & Experiences
As a Product Development Specialist, you will:

  • Be highly skilled in using Additive Manufacturing technologies such as FDM, SLS, SLA, DLP, MJF, Polyjet.
  • Have experience of using a range of scanning equipment and scanning software to a high level.
  • Have experience of running an additive manufacturing facility and guiding a technical team in the efficient running of the space.
  • Have experience of programming and operating robots.
  • Have experience of 3D Modelling software such as Fusion.
  • Have experience of operating CNC equipment or a willingness to undertake training.
  • Have experience of running workshops.
  • Have experience of successful delivery of research & innovation projects with industry across a wide range of sectors.
  • Have an understanding of compliance with funding programmes.
  • Be an excellent communicator with the ability to discuss effectively both on a technical and strategic level.
  • Be a good team player.
