The Department and role purpose

The Careers & Enterprise department sits within the Chief Operating Officer’s directorate and is part of the University’s developmental approach to ensuring effective student engagement, achievement and positive progression.

This exciting new role has been established by alumni philanthropy and will develop and deliver a pilot programme of ambitious internship, work-based learning and employer engagement opportunities for our students in the Department of Computer Science and across the Faculty of Science.

Based within the Careers and Enterprise team, the post holder work closely with the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Science, Development and Alumni Relations Office, Research and Innovation Services, and the International Office, along with other University departments as may become relevant throughout the development of the role.

The Internships & Industry Manager will utilise industry, alumni, and broader stakeholder networks to engage with employers and establish a portfolio of work experience providers to the benefit of our students, advertising, tracking, and managing internships to ensure a positive outcome for both students and employers and equipping students with the skills and confidence to succeed in the labour market by providing support through all stages of the recruitment process including applications, assessments, and interviews.

This role will focus primarily on internship opportunities for Computer Science students, by developing and enhancing industry partnerships and support student. The postholder, will also be required to build strong relationships across the University, to support careers and employability activities in the broader Science Faculty, and other Careers & Enterprise team led initiatives.

The post-holder must work in a motivated and proactive fashion to curate work experience and internship opportunities and ensure student success by immediately mobilising the alumni and professional networks in service of this programme. The ideal candidate will have experience in industry with existing networks and contacts to draw upon and/or experience in work experience and internship support and delivery.

This is a hybrid working role, with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office. During peak periods of activity, the postholder may be required to be on campus more frequently and in accordance with team meetings and business needs.
