Location: College Lane campus, Hatfield

The Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (MTP) research centre invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.

These fellowships are intended to allow the postholder to develop their own independent research programme in any area, building on; or complementary to, the research centre's existing strengths. These include: Scattering Amplitudes; Higher and Derived Structures; Homotopy Algebras; Integrability; Quantum Algebras and their Representation Theory; Supergravity and Generalized Geometry; Semigroups; Topological Algebra; Applied Category Theory.

Subject to funding being available, an extension of up to a further 1 year may be possible.

The start date must be after 1 April 2026 and no later than 1 October 2026.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be expected to pursue your own independent research programme in mathematics and/or theoretical physics, leading to the publication of research outputs including refereed publications in recognised journals. You are also expected to be open to collaborative projects with other members of research centre and to contribute to the positive and productive working atmosphere within the centreby, for example, helping with the running of seminar series and journal clubs. You may have the opportunity to undertake some light teaching duties as part of your general academic development.

Skills and experience required

You should have a record of successfully working in a research environment, of producing publishable research outputs, and you should have appropriate experience of presenting your research at local and national level.

It is essential that you have research experience in the subject area including, as appropriate, collaborative partnerships with other HEI’s or external partners, supported by knowledge of research methodology appropriate for the subject area. You will be able to plan and manage your own activities effectively with a methodical approach and attention to detail.

This role requires you to work effectively in a team setting, demonstrate the initiative and the ability to learn new skills and a commitment to continuous development.

Qualifications required

You will be edicated with a degree or equivalent level 6 qualification in a relevant feel and must either hold, or by the start date have submitted your thesis for a PhD in a relevant subject area.
