Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering / Design

Turning Passion into Purpose. London South Bank University is excited to be recruiting for a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and Design to join our vibrant School of Engineering and Design. We work closely with industry to solve real-world engineering and design challenges, and our graduates are known for combining strong technical and analytical capability with creativity, practical problem-solving and design thinking.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for an emerging academic to contribute to the continued development of our Mechanical Engineering and Product Design portfolio. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your own research, within areas aligned to the School’s priorities – such as sustainable and circular design, advanced manufacturing, materials and structural innovation, energy systems including thermal engineering, digital design and simulation, engineering systems and others. You will contribute to research funding bids, knowledge exchange activities, or enterprise projects.

About You:

We are looking to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:

• Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, Product Design, or a related discipline, with expertise that complements our teaching and research strengths.
• Experience of teaching, tutoring or demonstrating in higher education.
• Experience of supervising undergraduate, postgraduate taught and/or research projects.
• An emerging track record of research, scholarship or professional practice, evidenced through high quality journal publications, post-doctoral experience or proven engagement with industry.
• The ability to deliver modules outside of immediate research specialism.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, and a commitment to inclusive, student-centred learning.

This post is open on a full-time permanent basis to candidates who meet the Research Excellence Framework (REF) criteria at the time of appointment. Applicants should have a record of high-quality research outputs that meet REF standards. Applicants who do not currently meet the REF criteria, may be offered a fixed-term appointment.
