The DataSHIELD research project (datashield.org) develops infrastructure, privacy-preserving methods and governance processes for federated access and analysis of sensitive healthcare data. The software and infrastructure are used within multi-sector, international consortia co-analysing data across country borders, without viewing, physically moving or sharing the data. The DataSHIELD open-source community has grown from a research project now based at the University of Liverpool and comprises interdisciplinary contributors from academia, research hospitals and industry across four continents.
