Applications are invited for a Postgraduate Research (PGR) Administrator, in the Research Department. The Postgraduate Research Administrator provides efficient, effective and professional support for all aspects of PGR programme administration (PhD, MPhil, MRes), including: recruitment, enrolment, inductions, training, events, progression, examination, governance, scholarships, finance, visa arrangements and other aspects of student administration. They are the first point of contact for applicants, students and academics regarding postgraduate research programmes and contribute to a high-quality student experience by supporting academic coordination and ensuring operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance across the full PGR lifecycle.

This is a strategically important post, requiring initiative, judgement, and strong organisational skills to manage a wide range of responsibilities. The post-holder works closely with the Head of Postgraduate Research and must be able to proactively manage administrative and support functions for PGR programmes, which are undertaken across all four of GSA’s Schools and additional research centres in Glasgow and the Highlands.

The Postgraduate Research Administrator actively contributes to the strategic enhancement of postgraduate research provision and will play an important support role in preparations for and delivery of GSA’s new, 7-year AHRC-funded Doctoral Focal Award programme, a collaboration with two universities and a range of other organisations which will fund more than 20 PhD studentships and develop training and networking relationships within and beyond GSA.

Educated to at least Scottish Higher level (or equivalent) in relevant subjects, you will have significant professional administration experience in higher education or a comparably complex environment, with demonstrable experience of enhancing processes, managing multiple stakeholder relationships, servicing committee meetings and coordinating learner journeys from application to graduation. You will have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; excellent organisational skills with good attention to detail; the ability to manage time and prioritise tasks well; and will be confident in using standard office software and technology.
