Utilising HPE Juniper Mist technology alongside Ekahau for surveying, the project will be designing and installing into over 300 buildings increasing the current 4.5k access point provision to over 10k. You will be part of the team responsible for the wireless design of these buildings as well as troubleshooting and supporting issues as they occur across the wireless estate; ensuring a significant and positive impact on the day-to-day digital life of Students, Staff and Visitors.

About the Role

As a Wireless Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and optimising wireless networks. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of wireless technologies, troubleshoot complex issues, and provide expert guidance on best practices.

About You

  • Working in a busy environment you will be a senior member of the team responsible for the installation, design, configuration, management, support, and operation of the University’s central wireless systems and some of the services and devices that run in conjunction with it. You will also undertake the wide variety of work that is associated with the various networks.
  • You will be required to work closely with other members of the networks team, both senior and junior, providing guidance to the junior members of the team, with reports and plans to senior members of the team.
  • A key part of this senior role is working on multiple concurrent technical projects, both within IT Services and in the wider University, as well as providing day to day wireless technical support for other IT staff throughout the University. Prioritisation of work with a good troubleshooting background is key to being successful within this role.

Essential requirements for this role:

  • A good standard of education (minimum A-level or equivalent) with good Wi-Fi networking experience on either HPE Juniper Mist, Cisco, HP Aruba, or Aerohive wireless platforms.
  • Excellent understanding of 802.11 wireless standards and applying them to an enterprise environment.
  • Reliable, numerate, methodical, meticulous, thorough and adaptable.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work with staff at all levels in the University.
  • A willingness to work as part of a team with an approachable and helpful attitude, and capable of taking a lead role in the team, coordinating multiple tasks and staff members.
  • Excellent at problem resolution. Able to work on own initiative, but not afraid to take advice or escalate as necessary and to prioritise multiple and often conflicting demands.
  • Working experience with Ekahau (or similar) surveying tools for desktop design, on-site surveys and RF troubleshooting.
