The role:
These are exciting opportunities for early career researchers to receive training or enhance their skills on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or its application or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects.

How to apply and deadline
Initial Express of Interest (EoI) can be made by sending a full CV to Prof. Xiaohong W. Gao with "Fellowships" as the Subject title, including a brief description of proposed research related to the following areas.
Topics: Any research areas related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), such as (but not limited to) the followings:
- Computing in medical applications e.g. early cancer detection (lung, breast, skin, oesophagus, gastrointestinal tract ) or any medical applications
- Nature disaster prevention management e.g., flood prevention, fresh air management, global temperature management
- Digital twins technology in healthcare and climate change
- Computer vision, e.g., colour vision, human colour vision, colour appearance models, etc.
- AI technology, e.g. statistical learning, neural network learning, deep and transfer learning, feature extraction and classification, knowledge reasoning, etc.
Deadline for applications: 4 January 2026
Interview date (online): In the week starting on 12 January 2026
Eligibility
- Be a passport holder and permanent resident in South Korea or Philippines
- Be an early career researcher, i.e. not holding a permanent academic post nor a post with a research-related element (e.g. supervising PhDs, submitting grant proposals)
- Not currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards any other programme in the UK from any other sources
- Meet the English language requirement of the UK HEI if applicable
- Have received PhD or is close to completion or having PhD equivalent experience of research
- Be active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area
- Demonstrate that you are willing to contribute in the future to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after completing the fellowship programme at Middlesex University London
- Agree to maintain contact with the British Council for purposes of monitoring and evaluation during and after your fellowship
- Demonstrate in your application a plan and a passion to engage other early career researchers in your home country
