We are pleased to share details of a permanent opportunity for an experienced IT Operations Support Engineer to join our dedicated IT Operations team in Digital & Technology Services.
As an IT Operations Support Engineer you will work alongside an established IT Operations team, supporting on- premise and cloud based services for our UK, China and Malaysia campuses. You will work within the Enterprise Operations Team to maintain availability and quality of central systems and services for the university. This includes monitoring central IT systems and services and 3rd line support in the event of systems failing in order to being them back online as soon as possible.
You will play a key role within infrastructure and change teams acting as subject matter expert for backup and restore. You will act as the primary service owner for the service, ensuring it is fit-for-purpose, appropriately patched, aligned with strategic roadmaps and delivered to agreed SLAs/KPIs. Working closely with other DTS teams, you will take a lead in planning and implementing planned maintenance and upgrades and will play a key role in business continuity and major incident / problem resolution when required.
Your background will include proven expertise in backup and restore technologies, VEEAM, VMWare ESX, storage technologies and SQL database administration, as well as high level experience in supporting Windows server technology, including amongst others, Active Directory administration and Azure/EntraID/Microsoft 365. Ideally, you will have worked within a large, multi-technology network environment, supporting both on-premise and cloud based services. You will also have experience of monitoring systems to manage performance and network security.
As the successful candidate, you will have a degree/professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience and be a motivated self-starter, ideally with experience of ITIL and supporting change within a complex IT environment.
The post is offered on a permanent contract. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week); however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
