The Hull York Medical School is a joint medical school of the Universities of Hull and York, with a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting, contemporary schools. The School is committed to transforming the health of people within the region and beyond – through its students, staff and the impact of its teaching and research.
The Senior Anatomy Technician will play a central role in preparing and maintaining high-quality anatomical prosections, supporting educational delivery, and providing technical and session support. The post bridges technical expertise in dissection and specimen preparation with active involvement in practical classes, ensuring that students receive accurate, well-maintained resources and guided support in the anatomy teaching environment. Alongside supporting MBBS, Gateway Year and MSc programmes, the postholder will also contribute to the preparation of cadaveric material for wider School and University needs, including short courses, externally funded projects, and research grants, ensuring materials are available and appropriately prepared for both internal and external stakeholders. The postholder will also play a key role in ensuring accurate information about prosections and cadaveric material is recorded in the School’s database, working with the Technical Manager, Designated Individual, and academic staff to ensure that material is clearly catalogued, linked to teaching sessions and assessments, and that updates are reflected in a timely and accurate manner. In addition, the postholder will be expected to work in line with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) guidelines and Health and Safety regulations, contributing to audits, inspections, and best practice in the handling of human material. The role will be based at the University of Hull, with an expectation of travel to the York campus as required.
Applicants are expected to show a commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, and work in line with the School’s values of everyone counts, pursuing excellence, socially responsible and collaborative. This includes undertaking mandatory equality and diversity training and adhering to the principles outlined in the UK Medical School’s Charter on So-Called ‘Conversion Therapy’ and the British Medical Association (BMA) racial harassment charter for medical schools.
