Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

About the role:

The Chain Florey Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship supports clinician scientists in discovery science or experimental medicine to develop the skills needed for a successful intermediate fellowship. It bridges the gap between post-doctoral or clinical lecturer roles and independent research positions. We seek bold, ambitious proposals that would benefit from the expertise and world-class facilities at the LMS.

What you would be doing:

Fellows receive protected time (80% research; 20% clinical for maintenance of competency) for up to 24 months to generate preliminary data and prepare competitive applications to national governmental and/or charitable funders. A full mentorship programme will support the Fellow throughout. This opportunity is aimed at candidates who meet the essential criteria and show strong potential to become future leaders in clinical translational medicine.

What we are looking for:

Applicants must hold a PhD and either have a CCT (or equivalent) or be due to obtain CCT within 12 months of applying. Fellowships last up to 2 years of full-time research, with the option to maintain 1 day per week of clinical work, supported by an Honorary Consultant contract with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust or another NHS Trust.

What we can offer you:

  • Protected research time (80% research; 20% clinical) to develop competitive applications to national or international funders underpinned by preliminary data.
  • A full mentorship programme.
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
  • Grow in your career with tailored training programmes for clinical staff including dedicated support with navigating your career and managing research as well as a transparent promotion process.
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources designed to support your personal and professional wellbeing.

Further Information

This is a full-time, fixed term post for up to two years (part-time considered).

A concise project outline should be submitted with the application accompanied by a full CV and publication list. Proposed projects should demonstrate clear potential for collaboration with at least one LMS research group.

Short-listed candidates will be introduced to potential LMS scientific mentors to discuss their research project. Candidates will be asked to submit a proposal of up to 3 pages before interview, which would usually be held within 2 months of short-listing.

Please submit:

  • A 1-page project outline
  • A full CV and publication list
  • A cover letter

If you require any further details on the role, please check the LMS website or contact Professor Declan O’Regan (declan.oregan@lms.mrc.ac.uk), the Lead of the Chain Florey Programme or Aurelie Tromp, the Chain Florey Programme Manager (a.tromp@lms.mrc.ac.uk).

As this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, at the appropriate level, will be required for the successful candidate.
