About the Role

The Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law at the University of Greater Manchester is seeking to appoint an committed Lecturer in Coronial Law to join our expanding academic team. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality teaching, research, and knowledge exchange within the specialist field of coronial law and related areas, including inquests, death investigation systems, medico-legal processes, and public law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and workshops in Coronial Law and Investigation of Death.
  • Develop new teaching materials, module content, and assessment strategies.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
  • Engage in high-quality research leading to publication in reputable academic journals.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s research themes and participate in grant-funding opportunities.
  • Undertake personal tutoring and academic support for students.
  • Engage with professional bodies and coroners’ courts to enhance teaching and impact.
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide administrative duties.

Essential Criteria

  • A PhD (or near completion) in Law or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise or professional experience within the coronial system or medico-legal investigation.
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching or potential for excellent teaching.
  • A developing research profile with publications or strong potential for publication.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working with coroners’ courts, public inquiries, or related legal practice.
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Evidence of research impact or policy engagement.
  • Experience supervising student research projects.
