Assistant Professor (Teaching & Scholarship) in Computing

The role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor (Teaching & Scholarship) in Computing and Information Systems. The appointee will help deliver and develop our multiple award-winning UK undergraduate degree apprenticeship programmes in computing and information systems and provide general service to the University within and across faculties.

In the first instance, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery of the university’s online BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship (Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional). The successful applicant will be expected to teach the following computer networking and information technology service management courses at Level 5 and Level 6:

• Networks and Platform Technologies
• Information Technology Service Management
• Advanced Information Technology Service Management

This list of courses is not exhaustive.

Core duties will include the development and teaching of cutting-edge courses in computing and information systems both online and on campus, assessment and moderation, student support, peer review, etc. The successful applicant will also be required (with the University’s support) to gain ServiceNow certifications within their first year and to help deliver programmes that have a ServiceNow component.

Person Specification Criteria

Qualifications

• PhD completed, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area.
• FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected.

General Criteria

• Demonstrates, through evidence, the ability to teach computer networking to a high standard.
• Demonstrates, through evidence, the ability to teach information technology service management to a high standard.
• Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in particular in relation to ServiceNow technology.
• Ability to develop and deliver teaching that is interactive and experiential by design.
• Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses, where appropriate in collaboration with specialists from other disciplines
• Teaching competency in computing and information systems to Levels 4–6 (i.e., all undergraduate levels)
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills, both face-to-face and online
• Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
• Excellent time-management and organisational skills

Things to consider

For staff’s own wellbeing, for part time roles, the expectation is if you have multiple roles, they should not exceed full time (37.5 hours per week), and for full time roles, the expectation is that this will be your only role (apart from intermittent roles such as exam invigilator etc).
