John Cabot University (JCU), an accredited American liberal arts university based in Rome (Italy), invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in International Law (preferably at the Assistant level). The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of tenure and the successful candidate is expected to join the Department of Political Science and International Affairs, beginning in August 2026.
Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Political Science, International Relations, Law or related discipline and academic experience in International Law or related areas, demonstrated excellence in teaching, a thriving research agenda, and commitment to academic service. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in International Security and Cybersecurity, Environmental Law and Politics, International Economic Law, or International Criminal Law.
The ideal candidate should have familiarity and experience with the American liberal arts educational tradition and be prepared to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses as well as courses in their area of expertise. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Candidates are expected to be fluent in English, which is the language of instruction, and to possess valid EU working documents in Italy at the time of application. Successful candidates should demonstrate dedication to excellence in teaching and mentoring, scholarly activity, and a serious commitment to university, departmental, and community service.
Applications shall include: 1) a cover letter addressing the applicant’s interest and fit for teaching in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs of an American liberal arts college in Rome; 2) an updated curriculum vitae; 3) a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching and mentoring excellence, and an indication of courses the candidate would be prepared and excited to teach; 4) a research plan, including an indication of priority areas and of research outputs expected in the next two years.
