The Role

The College is seeking an experienced Senior Lecturer / Programme Leader to lead and develop Civil Engineering provision across Levels 4 to 7. The role combines teaching, academic leadership and programme management, with responsibility for curriculum development, quality assurance and staff coordination within the Civil Engineering area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of Civil Engineering programmes at HNC/HND, and degree levels
  • Ensure programmes are delivered in accordance with approved regulations, specifications and external requirements
  • Maintain oversight of academic standards, quality assurance and enhancement activities
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of Civil Engineering programmes and their delivery
  • Support and monitor teaching staff within the Civil Engineering area
  • Lead course review processes and contribute to Quality Improvement Plans
  • Monitor key performance indicators including attendance, retention, progression, achievement and student feedback
  • Contribute to curriculum development to ensure relevance to industry and professional practice
  • Support recruitment activity, including interviews, open days and curriculum-related events

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Extensive teaching experience in Civil Engineering or a cognate discipline at undergraduate and postgraduate level where applicable
  • Demonstrable up-to-date subject knowledge and professional awareness
  • Good knowledge of the UK higher education regulatory and quality assurance framework
  • Ability to teach in ways that inspire, challenge and support students with diverse learning needs
  • Willingness to work towards Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (if not already held)

Desirable:

  • PhD or equivalent qualification, or extensive senior-level industrial and professional experience
  • Professional membership, or eligibility for membership, leading to Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Research, scholarly or enterprise activity, including research supervision
  • Experience of leading modules, programmes or academic teams
  • Recognised teaching qualification at Level 4 or Level 5
