Teaching Fellow

New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE)

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for enthusiastic Teaching Fellows to join our team. Whether you are early in your academic-career, or an industry professional eager to step into teaching, this role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with students to support their degree studies through applied projects and workshops. You will help students learn theory through practice in a project-based learning environment, develop their interdisciplinary skills, and enable them to tackle real-world engineering challenges.

NMITE is a pioneering UK Higher Education provider based in Hereford, rethinking engineering education through active, project-based learning, interdisciplinarity, and strong industry and community connections. Our curriculum is fully challenge-led: students learn by doing, tackling complex engineering problems across disciplines in collaborative workshops and project spaces, rather than through traditional lectures or exams.

At NMITE, you will join a team that is collaborative, forward-thinking, and committed to hands-on, applied learning. You will have opportunities to contribute to curriculum development, co-deliver projects, and help shape the next generation of integrated engineers.  

You will: 

  • Collaborate with academic colleagues to design and create practical activities for studio-based learning that will bring a variety of engineering concepts to life.
  • Facilitate engaging studio, workshop and practical learning experiences for students enrolled in engineering and technology degree programmes or professional courses.
  • Assist module leaders in planning, designing, and enhancing learning materials, practical exercises, and assessment tasks for project-based modules. 
  • Guide students in problem-solving, project planning, prototyping, and applied engineering tasks, helping them integrate knowledge across disciplines. 
  • Collaborate with our team of technicians to ensure workshops and project spaces prepared for and optimised for learning, whilst remaining safe and compliant.
  • Provide academic support to students, including mentoring, tutorials, and feedback on their work. 
  • Support assessment processes, including marking and providing feedback.
  • Maintain records of student progress, workshop activity, and learning resources, ensuring smooth delivery of projects and compliance with academic standards. 
  • Support co-curricular activities or student showcases, competitions, and outreach initiatives to enhance engagement, professional skills, and employability. 

Qualifications & Experience 

Essential: 

  • Master-level degree in engineering or a related discipline. 
  • Practical, hands-on experience in engineering in relevant disciplines. 
  • Teaching, mentoring, or coaching experience in engineering or technology fields, with demonstrable ability to stablish positive learning relationships with students.
  • Ability to engage and support students through practical and problem-based learning
  • Enthusiasm for student-centred, challenge-led education. 

Desirable: 

  • Professional registration, with an engineering or technology institute (or willingness to pursue within the probationary period).
  • Fellowship of Advance HE (or willingness to pursue within the probationary period).
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (or willingness to pursue within the first three years).
