This post is full time (35 hours per week) and has funding until 31st August 2027 in the first instance.
Working under the supervision of Professor Jon Cooper, the successful candidate will contribute to a project focusing on combining spatially offset and stand-off Raman spectroscopy systems incorporating a ps pulsed laser and an advanced time gated array detector for applications in non-contact/non-invasive healthcare monitoring.
Examples of healthcare applications include assessment of osteoporosis, identification of bone fractures and diagnosis of melanomas. The project particularly emphasizes the development of compact robust instrumentation that can be used outside of the laboratory such as a non-Czerny-Turner spectrometer and other remote and digital health based sensing techniques as aids to diagnostics.
Ideally the applicant will have experience in developing optical systems involving pulsed lasers, high speed detectors and software interfaces for tailored data collection; alternatively, a good appreciation of how these systems work and their integration with other system elements will need to be shown. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and have the opportunity to develop further research funding proposals.
