Faculty / Directorate
Based in the £35 million Hugh Aston building, the Faculty of Business and Law is a truly global community of more than 8,000 students from more than 100 nationalities. State-of-the-art study facilities include a finance trading floor, mock and real courtrooms, computer laboratories, dedicated PGR facilities along with study and breakout areas. With a strong emphasis on employability, the business and law programmes offer students an opportunity to undertake a placement, internships and live projects. The faculty also boasts strong links with professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, CIM and CIPD, offering recognition and significant exemptions from professional courses across a wide range of subject areas. With a vibrant research culture, the faculty is also home to a large Research and Innovation Institute for Responsible Business and Social Justice that with over 200 members and affiliates, works closely with both industry and communities locally and nationally.
The Role
Reporting to the PVC & Dean, the Director of Faculty Operations will provide effective operational leadership of faculty operations. You will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of high-quality teaching, research, knowledge exchange and innovation activities across the faculty. As Director of Faculty Operations, your role includes leadership of business planning, performance monitoring and the provision of strategic advice on financial planning, resource deployment, risk management and compliance. You will further lead and develop a high-performing professional services workforce, ensuring clear objectives, strong performance standards and efficient, technology-enabled processes. You will work closely with professional services directorates to commission activity, influence policy, shape operational priorities and support delivery of the Faculty’s strategic objectives.
The Ideal Candidate
You will bring significant senior leadership experience within a large, complex organisation—ideally in Higher Education—and be educated to degree level or higher equivalent. You will have a proven track record in operational leadership, strategic planning, budget and resource management, and leading organisational change. A strong understanding of academic quality, learning and teaching needs, research and innovation needs and student experience is essential. You will demonstrate excellent people management skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate complex challenges with confidence. Strong communication, analytical capability and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders will be vital. Experience with accreditation processes, strategic partnerships or commercial and enterprise activity would be advantageous. This is an outstanding opportunity to shape the operational success of the Faculty of Business and Law and play a pivotal role in supporting the University’s long-term ambitions.
