The role

The role combines clinical and research training in general adult psychiatry. The successful applicant will be supported by the Centre for Academic Mental Health to develop their own independent programme of research.

This post is available full or part-time (at a minimum 66% FTE) -to be agreed.

What will you be doing?

The successful applicant will combine completing their clinical training in general adult psychiatry, working towards CCT (50%), with academic training in psychiatry, working towards developing their own programme of research and applying for Advanced Fellowships (50%).

The post is for a maximum of four years, or until CCT is reached, whichever is sooner. NIHR may approve an extension post-CCT, provided this is within the 4-year funding for the award.

You should apply if

You have passed your MRCPsych and are at ST3 level or above.

You have completed, or submitted, a higher degree by research by the time of applying for the post (PhD or MD or equivalent); you must have passed your PhD by the time of taking up the post (1st September 2026 at the latest).

You are motivated to continue clinical academic training in psychiatry.

Contract type: Fixed-term annually renewable for up to 4 years or until CCT, whichever occurs first

Work pattern: Full (40h) or part-time (at a minimum 66% FTE)
