The School of Engineering and Built Environment is based in the College of Business, Technology and Engineering and encompasses a range of subject areas including Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, and Construction Project Management.

We are recruiting for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in both Quantity Surveying and Building Surveying to join our existing team and welcome applications from candidates with substantial practical UK experience in:

  • Sustainability/ environmental impacts
  • Sustainable construction technologies
  • Sustainable costing
  • Digital Construction and BIM
  • Building Economics
  • Construction Technology, MMC, Lab testing of materials
  • Legal issues/ Construction Contract Law
  • Procurement and Contract Administration.
  • Project Planning
  • Health & Safety
  • Cost Planning / Commercial Management
  • Measurement
  • pathology/ control/ conservation and refurbishment
  • Building Regs
  • Dilapidation Surveys

Applicants should have an awareness of the current trends, issues, and developments in construction and surveying both nationally and internationally and will be expected to demonstrate an applied understanding of current industry developments during the selection process.

You do not need previous experience of teaching, as this is a great opportunity for an applicant with practical industry experience and a desire to inspire the next generation of Quantity Surveyors and Building Surveyors to embark on a career in academia.

You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.

Each year you will earn a secure pension benefit of 1/57th of your salary and the University will pay pension contributions towards the cost of this pension (currently worth about 29% of your salary). For a starting salary of £40,521, for example, the University would pay just over £11,600 in the first year of your employment and you would earn a pension of £711 p.a. for that year (payable from your State Pension Age).

If you are, or have been, a recent member of the  Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the TPS and remain in the USS.   Please contact the Pensions team  to discuss options available.
