About the Job

We are looking for a Senior Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to play a key role in leading, developing, and overseeing a high-quality academic English provision to support positive student engagement, progression, and academic success. This includes responsibility for timetabled EAP modules, optional workshops, tutorials, and associated academic and operational activity.

Working closely with the Head of the English Language Hub, fellow Senior EAP Lecturers, EAP Lecturers, and colleagues across the University, the role ensures the effective and consistent delivery of EAP provision aligned with institutional strategy, academic policies, and quality standards.

The role encompasses teaching, curriculum development, quality assurance and enhancement, and operational administration, including engagement with external accreditation or professional bodies where appropriate. The Senior Lecturer will contribute to continuous improvement in academic English provision, supporting student outcomes across a diverse and international student population.

Academic Leadership and Responsibilities

Senior EAP Lecturers hold academic leadership responsibilities, which may include:

  • Ownership and development of EAP modules, programmes, or courses
  • Overall academic responsibility for designated student cohorts
  • Line management, mentoring, and support of EAP Lecturers
  • Teaching and associated academic activities (typically up to 12 hours per week during teaching periods, as agreed with the Head of Department)
  • Data capture, monitoring, and reporting to support quality assurance and student success

The role may also involve conducting English language admissions screening interviews, ensuring prospective students meet entry requirements and are linguistically prepared for success on their chosen academic programmes.

About You:

You will need to be passionate about EAP and committed to supporting student success in a Higher Education context. You will be an experienced EAP practitioner with a strong academic background and a collaborative, student-centred approach to teaching and learning.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • A CELTA qualification (or equivalent), alongside a completed undergraduate degree in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or a closely related subject
  • Significant experience teaching EAP in Higher Education (minimum four years’ EAP teaching experience)
  • A strong understanding of academic English, study skills, and inclusive teaching practices within UK or international HE settings
  • Experience of line managing in an academic setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary academic team
  • A kind, professional, and supportive approach, demonstrating empathy and respect in the workplace and classroom

You will be a dedicated and enthusiastic educator who values collaboration, contributes positively to academic communities, and is motivated by helping students develop the academic language skills needed to succeed at university.
