Human Resources Officer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Officer to join our institution. This is a strategic and operational role requiring strong expertise in HR practice, compliance, and decisive decision-making. The successful candidate will lead on all aspects of human resources, employment relations, staff welfare, and organisational development and reporting directly to the College Principal.

Salary

Full-Time: £33,000 – £36,000 per annum

Part-Time: Pro-Rata

Duties/Job Function:

• Extensive HR experience within the Higher Education (HE) or Further Education (FE) sector is mandatory.
• Experience in a similar HR management role within an HE/FE institution is highly preferred.
• Strong and up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and the ability to make firm, informed decisions.
• Good working knowledge of payroll processes, OfS and ACAS employment laws compliance, and staff remuneration.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive issues professionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the full HR function, including policies, procedures, and compliance.
• Provide authoritative advice on employment law, HR best practice, and staff relations.
• Manage payroll coordination and ensure accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, induction, and workforce planning processes.
• Manage employee relations, disciplinary procedures, grievances, and investigations.
• Support staff development, training, and performance management frameworks.
• Ensure the institution maintains high standards of safeguarding and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain accurate HR records and support audit and reporting requirements.
• Be able to implement new HR application database

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Demonstrable HR management experience within HE/FE.
• Strong understanding of employment legislation, safeguarding, and compliance frameworks.
• Decisive decision-maker with sound professional judgement.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.

Desirable:

• Demonstrable HR management experience within HE/FE.
• Ability to implement new HR application database

Qualifications

• CIPD Level 6 or above (or equivalent) preferred.
• Degree in Human Resource Management
