The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

The role

The University of Surrey is looking for a talented Communications Coordinator to creatively share inspiring news and need-to-know information with our internal audiences. You’ll be a strong, engaging writer, who has a natural ability to build great working relationships, alongside top-class organisational skills to manage our active internal communications channels.

As part of a fast-paced Internal Communications team, you’ll have the chance to explore new opportunities for channels and content, work closely with staff to communicate the news that matters to them, and manage communications for projects including our annual Vice-Chancellor Awards, wellbeing and equality, diversity and inclusion. You’ll be working with a wide range of University stakeholders at different levels of the organisation, so you will need to be comfortable with talking to senior colleagues and using your knowledge and integrity to encourage communications best practice.

This role would suit someone who has experience in storytelling, understands how to share information to engage, inspire and influence people and is looking to progress into a role with increased responsibility.

You’ll be joining at an exciting time – as we help to deliver a new University strategy designed to build on our proud track record of producing students and research which enriches lives. This role will contribute to the strategic objective that aims to build a strong Surrey community and helps staff and students feel a sense of pride and belonging to the University.

The team you’ll be a part of works across the University and leads on staff and student communications, strategic communications, media relations, social media, public affairs, public engagement, and internal and external events. Its focus is on engaging and informing our staff and student communities, raising the profile of the institution, supporting and protecting its reputation, and managing crises and issues as they arise.

We offer a generous pension, relocation assistance, flexible working options including job share and blended home/campus working locations (dependent on work duties), access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family-friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.
