We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart. Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
We are now seeking a Principal Lecturer in Medical Sciences who will play a pivotal leadership role in the continued development of this expanding portfolio. We are looking for an individual with a strong professional and academic profile in medical sciences, with proven experience of leading educational programmes, developing curriculum, and working in partnership with clinical services and external organisations.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a motivated and forward-thinking School within the Institute of Health at a time of growth, development and strategic ambition. You will help shape the next phase of our medical sciences provision, supporting teams across undergraduate, postgraduate and apprenticeship routes, and driving excellence in learning, teaching, assessment, and student experience.
You will also be expected to foster strong relationships with external partners, working collaboratively with NHS Trusts, education networks, and professional bodies to ensure our programmes remain future-focused and sector leading. The ability to innovate, lead change and work across complex systems will be essential.
The University of Cumbria is deeply committed to inclusivity, belonging and widening participation. Applicants should demonstrate a clear commitment to inclusive education, reducing disparities within the health professions, and promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment for staff and students. Experience of leading or contributing to equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives is highly desirable.
This post will form part of the senior leadership team for Medical Sciences. The role will involve a mixture of remote and on-campus working, with regular engagement with our partner organisations across the region. The base location is negotiable on appointment.
Opportunity for Associate Professor
For applicants with an appropriate academic profile, research and enterprise portfolio, and leadership experience, there is an opportunity to be considered for appointment at Associate Professor level, aligned to the University’s academic promotions criteria. Applicants wishing to be considered for this route should demonstrate clear evidence of academic leadership, enterprise activity, national influence, and excellence in teaching and learning.
