Main duties and responsibilities

Directorate and Team

The Centre for Learning and Study Support (CLaSS) is part of a wider Learning Services team and is based in the directorate of Library and Student Services. CLaSS is a friendly and well-established team, that has attracted sector wide recognition for the quality of its work.

Role

You will join a committed, proactive team of learning developers dedicated to supporting undergraduate, postgraduate and research students. Support is delivered through a range of activities, including drop-in sessions, one-to-one tutorials, workshops and lectures. You will contribute to the design, development and delivery of high-quality online and face-to-face learning resources that enhance students’ academic literacies and research practices.

The role involves working collaboratively with colleagues across the University’s three faculties to support and embed academic skills development within the curriculum. You will play an active role in enhancing institutional approaches to learning development, ensuring provision is inclusive, evidence-informed and responsive to student needs.

As a team, we value creative and innovative approaches to achieving our objectives. You will therefore be encouraged to contribute your ideas, expertise and experience to wider strategic initiatives and resource development projects, supporting the continuous improvement of learning development provision across the University.

Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of learning development, particularly academic literacies and research practices across a range of disciplines. You will be passionate about supporting and empowering students, helping them to develop critical thinking skills and realise their academic potential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad range of learning and teaching experience, including recent experience of teaching in higher education and a sound understanding of higher education assessment practices. You will be confident in adapting your approach to meet the needs of diverse learners and academic contexts.

You will be a collaborative, creative and confident professional, able to work effectively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, including librarians, subject specialists and learning technologists, to deliver high-quality, joined-up learning development support across the institution.

This role is fixed term for 12 months.
