The University of Waikato is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Finance to join its Joint Institute with Hangzhou City University (NZUWI) in China. This is an exciting international academic opportunity for a passionate educator and researcher to contribute to a growing global collaboration.
Based at Hangzhou City University, you will play a key role in delivering the Bachelor of Business (Finance major), providing high-quality teaching, assessment and academic leadership. You will inspire and support students in a cross-cultural learning environment while continuing to develop your research profile and contribute to the advancement of the finance discipline.
This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to gain international academic experience within a vibrant teaching environment. While the position is based in China, you will remain closely connected to the University of Waikato and the Waikato Management School, supporting both teaching excellence and research engagement.
The salary range is CNY 388,000–460,000 per annum for Lecturer and CNY 475,000–575,000 per annum for Senior Lecturer, depending on qualifications, skills and experience.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
You are a committed academic with a PhD in Finance or Economics and experience delivering engaging undergraduate teaching across cultures, particularly in Asian contexts. You bring strong disciplinary knowledge, effective and innovative teaching practices, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
You will have experience teaching finance courses across undergraduate levels, as well as introductory economics. With a developing or established research profile, you are self-motivated, culturally aware, and dedicated to academic excellence in an international setting. Ideally, applicants must have at least two years of full-time teaching experience to meet employment requirements in China.

The University of Waikato Joint Institute at Hangzhou City University is an approved institute authorised by the Chinese Ministry of Education to deliver degrees accredited by both institutions. Established in 2017, the Institute has approximately 1,000 students and 16 academic staff, offering undergraduate programmes in Finance, Design and Media. All teaching is conducted in English.
The Waikato Management School is a Triple Crown accredited business school (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA), recognised nationally and internationally for its teaching quality, research excellence and strong industry engagement.
