We are seeking to appoint three Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRAs) to work on the project ‘Calving Law for Ice-Climate Simulations (CALIX)’ funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The CALIX project seeks to develop, test and implement a new stochastic calving law using a range of remote sensing, statistical and modelling techniques, and to apply the model to constrain future calving losses from the Antarctic Ice Sheet.     

Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in glaciology or related discipline, including experience of remote sensing and/or numerical modelling, preferably ISSM, Úa, Elmer/Ice or HiDEM. The posts are available for a period of 36 months. The intended start date is March 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The three PDRAs will be based in the School of Geography and Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews, within the Environmental Change Research Group. The PDRAs will form a team that will work closely with project lead Doug Benn (University of St Andrews) and project partners Hilmar Gudmundsson (Northumbria University, UK), Mathieu Morlighem (Dartmouth College, USA), Adrian Luckman (Swansea University, UK), and Jan Åström and Thomas Zwinger (CSC, Finland). Funds are available for the PDRAs to visit partner institutes, as well as to attend international conferences and project meetings.
