We seek to appoint a visionary leader to establish the Albert Gubay Business School (AGBS) - an ambitious and exciting project that will play a leading role in changing the economic landscape of north Wales. The AGBS will serve as a transformative force, empowering people, businesses, and communities through innovative education, entrepreneurship, and impactful research. Serving as a vibrant hub for business education, applied research, and business engagement, the AGBS will attract top talent from Wales and the world. It will offer programmes that are highly aligned with evolving business needs (e.g., data analytics and AI, sustainability, digital business, finance & compliance, etc.), offer internships, placements, & strong links with industry, and attract high quality students from the Uk and internationally in order to upskill and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Bangor is a distinctive university in the oldest city in Wales, with a strong reputation for its teaching and research, and for playing an impactful role in its region. Following a proposed donation of £10.5 million from the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation, the Bangor Business School changed its name to the Albert Gubay Business School in 2025. The school serves a hub for growth, opportunity and collaboration across North Wales. It is home to exceptional teaching and research excellence, exemplified by key centres such as Rhanbarth Centre for Sustainable Regions and Economies, and the Institute of European Finance, with links to industry and businesses across the UK and Globally. Its culture of excellence is reflected in its ranking in the top 5 UK institutions for banking and finance.
The inaugural Dean will oversee the school’s development, manage the current portfolio, the expansion of links with industry, and the maintenance of current partnerships. They will continue to foster a strong culture of research excellence, solidifying the school as a sector-leading centre of excellence in teaching and research across the UK and internationally. In particular, they will foster global TNE links, as well as strengthen UK based recruitment.
We are looking for an ambitious leader, with a proven track record of managing change, delivering growth, and an established academic and research profile in a relevant discipline. Applicants should be accustomed to presenting strategic vision, engaging people and encouraging others to succeed. They will share our commitment to inclusivity, sustainable development and global citizenship.
This is an exciting opportunity to join us at Bangor.
