We are seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to an Impact Acceleration project with Dr William Peveler and a major Italian foodstuff manufacturer. Based on our publication (ACS Appl Nano Matter 2022, 10.1021/acsanm.2c03406) and our ongoing collaborative work, we have developed a new chemical assay coupled with a machine learning algorithm to measure the impact of wood-aging on a range of foodstuffs. This portion of the project involves undertaking final validation experiments and refining the data analysis pipeline, before creating a final useable assay for accreditation, as well as exploring a range of potential industrial partnerships to deliver the final assay product.
If you have some experience in chemical analysis, skills in data analysis and presentation, and you enjoy the idea of working on the interface of research and analytical chemistry in the food and drink industry, then this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the translation of an assay beyond the lab and deliver real-world impact. The project will likely involve some partner visits to sites in the UK and northern Italy.
You will be hosted in the Bio Nano Sensing group, a vibrant and dynamic group, typically consisting of 3-4 PhD students, 2-3 Post-Doctoral Researchers, as well as technicians, project students and visiting researchers. Our work crosses molecular and materials synthesis and analytical method development, and we collaborate with clinicians, environmental engineers and many others to deliver technologies to end users. We aim to provide an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative environment for researchers at all career stages. More information on the group, our labs and our projects can be found at pevelerlab.com, and informal enquiries are welcomed to william.peveler@glasgow.ac.uk.
